Local Area
With the delights of the English Lake District and Eden Valley on your doorstep, you will never be short of things to do. Walking & Cycling: For walkers, cyclists or motorists the Lake District offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the World. With fells to climb and lakes to sail on, there is no shortage of delights for the adventurous. The Northern Fells are on your doorstep and offer a quieter part of the Lakes to explore - Skiddaw and Blencathra are the popular fell walking peaks but the gentler fells such as High Pike and Carrock Fell are just as rewarding and a lot quieter. For cyclists, the C2C (Coast to Coast) and Reiver's Route cycle ways run close to our cottages and the fells offer excellent mountain biking opportunities. The magnificent waterfalls at Aira Force near Ullswater is worth a visit - managed by the National Trust. The low level walks are along well maintained footpaths, which eventually lead up onto the hills if you are keen enough. If not, you can always wander towards the tea rooms, and look out over the lake from there! Ullswater Steamers - Lake cruises on Ullswater - combine a lake cruise with some of the most famous and spectacular walks in the Lake District. Local Towns & Villages: If you prefer a more relaxed pace, the Lakeland towns and villages provide countless places to explore and you will never be far away from places to eat and drink. The market towns of Keswick and Penrith are only 15 minutes away and the picturesque villages of Caldbeck and Pooley Bridge on Ullswater are a similar distance. Art & Crafts: Given the hundreds of artists and craft workers based in the area you will discover a huge selection of gifts or treats from a wealth of craft galleries and specialist shops. Rainy Days: And should the weather turn wet, make use of Carrock Cottages library of information about such local visitor attractions as Rheged, Wetheriggs Pottery, Greystoke Castle Upfront Gallery and the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick. Places to Eat & Drink: There are many places to eat in and around Carrock Cottage. A few of the nearest places are:
